We all have negative patterns that we repeat in our lives. These patterns can act as stumbling blocks along our path to freedom, and prevent us from achieving our goals and stepping into the life we want… more joy, more love, more peace, and more abundance.
The good news is that by taking the time to recognize these patterns and make a conscious choice to take conscious action to correct them, magical shifts are possible.

How to Break Free From Old Patterns – Video Transcript
Hi it’s Rebecca Loach here. I am an Angelic Channel, an Energy Healer, and the creator of the Earth Angel essences line of flower and gem essences and the Angelic Alchemy Essence Card deck. And today I wanted to talk to you about how to recognize the patterns in your life that are getting in your way and preventing you from living the life of your dreams. To notice how to recognize these patterns, and how to correct them so that you can bring more abundance, more joy, more peace, and more love into your life.
Step 1: Recognize the Patterns
So the very first step is to recognize these patterns. A simple way to do this is to get a piece of paper and a pen, if you wish, or just to contemplate where in your life are you asking “why am I always…? Why do I never…? why does this keep happening to me?” Any of those questions that indicate that something happens over and over again. So write a list of all of those questions.
Examples might be: “Why am I always so tired? Why don’t I ever have any energy? Why am I always having these relationships come to me that are not what I’m looking for in my life? Why am I not having fun on my birthday? Why, why, why? Why do these things always happen? So write down a list of all of those “whys” that you have.
The next thing is to look at them one by one and then ask that question to yourself: “why is this always happening?” Try to think and to reflect – and you can meditate or get into stillness if you need to – or just come up with ideas about why those things are happening.Asking 'why does this always happen to me?' can help you recognize the patterns holding you back.Click To Tweet
So an easy example is “why am I always tired?” Well is it because you’re getting to bed too late? Are you waking up too early? Are you not surrounded in an environment that could help you sleep? Are you eating foods that are making you tired during the day, so maybe it’s not about the sleep you’re getting at night but it’s about what you’re eating and what you’re doing during the day? So that’s one example and you can go through some more.
I’ll give you an example from my own life: For the past two years, I’ve run a three day conference during the month of May. And this has led to May being a very busy time, a very stressful time, and a very fulfilling time as well because the conference is always very fun.
Now the challenge comes in that my son’s birthday is at the beginning of the May, we’ve got Mother’s Day kind of near the beginning to mid-May, and my birthday is near the mid to end of May. So the conference is always been right in the middle of that time, with all of these special events around.
And so the question I’ve always had is, you know, “why is it my birthday… I’m so tired after running this event. I’m so tired, why can’t I enjoy my birthday?” And “why is it so stressful around my son’s birthday?” Yes we have to do all the family things and do all the planning and preparing for that, but it should be a joyous occasion. And “why can’t I ever enjoy Mother’s Day?” These are the questions I’ve been asking.
And I recognized the pattern was that I kept putting this conference right in the middle of all those events. So even though those events could have been joyful they were always overshadowed by the work that needed to be done in preparation.
And so the conference got in the way of me having those fun times with my son’s birthday, with my birthday, and with Mother’s Day, but also I felt, because I was so focused on conferences at some times, that those events were getting in the way from me getting my work done. So it’s really not a very good pattern and it was this cycle and spiral.
That leads me to step two: how do you correct these patterns?
Well, the first step, of course, is recognizing them, and once you recognize your patterns you can actually change them. So for the example that we had about being too tired, if you know that it’s from the foods you’re eating, make a conscious choice to take action to change your food choices. If you’re not getting to bed on time, take conscious action to set an appropriate bedtime. If you’re not in an environment conducive to sleeping, if it’s too noisy, make some choices about if you need to wear earplugs or get a sound machine, or is there a different configuration or place that you can sleep that is going to support you more in that? That’s going to go a long way.
So recognizing the patterns and then making choices and conscious action to heal those parts of your life is going to go a long way.
For me, I decided this year that I’m not going to plan anything for the month of May. I know that every year this is a pattern and this year I didn’t plan anything, so we enjoyed so much celebrating my son’s third birthday with him. Mother’s Day is coming up in a few days and I decided that in order to make sure that I really enjoy that day with my family, to start a family tradition and we’re going to go out for brunch together, my husband and son and I, and make that a tradition that we can all look forward to that day together. It’s time we spend together.
And for my birthday, instead of being tired and drained from the event, we planned an overnight at a spa. And so we’re going to have some fun time walking in nature, enjoying some spot treatments and a wonderful dinner and a restful night’s sleep.
So instead of it being needing time to recoup and recover, it’s going to be just a fun and rejuvenating time. And those were conscious choices that I made, conscious action, recognizing a pattern that I didn’t like in my life by saying “why I am I always asking this question? Why am I not having fun for my birthday?” I’m the one that planned that conference and I made that decision and I have the power to change that decision. And so do you.
So I encourage you to try that, see where in your life for asking those questions. What can you come up with for why these things are happening for you? And making those conscious choices to take conscious action to move forward. You’ll be surprised at what comes up and your life will become much more free, joyful, and fun.
